Bashir Hatef released from Bagram prison after one year in prison; journalist organizations criticize violation of right to fair trial

Kabul – Kabul Times News: Veteran Afghan journalist Bashir Hatef has been released from Bagram prison after serving a year in prison.

The Afghan Journalists Center has welcomed the release of the journalist and announced that Bashir Hatef’s fundamental rights, including the right to a fair and just trial, were violated during his arrest and trial.

These organizations have emphasized that Bashir Hatef’s freedom should not have been taken away from the beginning and that his arrest was not in line with legal principles and fair trial standards.

Bashir Hatef is one of Afghanistan’s veteran journalists, whose arrest last year was accompanied by widespread reaction and concern from media organizations and freedom of expression advocates.

Afghan journalist organizations have called on responsible authorities to ensure free and secure media activity in the country by respecting the rights of journalists and media activists.
