Al Jazeera: Doubts about Pakistan's role in mediation between Iran and the US have increased
Kabul Times News | International
In a report, Al Jazeera Network examined the renewed escalation of tensions between Iran and the US and the future of diplomatic efforts to contain this crisis, and wrote that Pakistan's role as a mediator between Tehran and Washington has faced increasing doubts and challenges.
According to the report, Pakistan, which only a few weeks ago was able to pave the way for the extension of the ceasefire between Iran and the US, is now facing a gradual weakening of the same agreement. The recent clashes have also put the ceasefire that was established between the two sides on April 8 at risk of collapse for the third time.
Al Jazeera writes, citing a number of experts, that although Islamabad has the capacity to establish communication channels between Tehran and Washington, it does not have the necessary tools to ensure the implementation of the agreements resulting from this mediation.
The report continues that the future of the crisis depends more on the strategic decisions of Iran and the United States, especially regarding the Strait of Hormuz, rather than on the efforts of mediators. The waterway remains one of the most sensitive centers of geopolitical tension in the region.
