At the same time, US media reported that US President Donald Trump is considering options for renewed strikes against Iran to break the deadlock in negotiations.
Axios reported on Thursday, April 30, that the US Central Command (CENTCOM) has prepared a plan for a “short and powerful” wave of strikes against Iran, which would likely include targeting infrastructure.
Another plan expected to be presented to Trump focuses on controlling part of the Strait of Hormuz to reopen it to commercial shipping.
According to the Axios report, such an operation could also involve ground forces, according to one of the sources.
Trump had previously said he would continue the naval blockade, which could put more pressure on Iran.
This comes as US-Iran talks have reached a deadlock.
