Afghan Woman Accused of Supporting Terrorism Deported from the US to Afghanistan

The US Department of Justice has announced that Nazira Hajizadeh, a 47-year-old Afghan woman accused of supporting a mass shooting plot, has been deported from the US and returned to Afghanistan.

According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), this is the first case to be adjudicated under the US framework for the deportation of foreign terrorists.

Hajizadeh arrived in the US in 2018 and resided in Texas. Her son is also currently imprisoned on charges of plotting a terrorist attack.

Why is this significant?

This case marks the first instance of a new US judicial mechanism being used to expedite the deportation of foreign nationals accused of ties to terrorism. This process could impact future cases involving other Afghan nationals in the US.
