Afghanistan among 50 countries participating in 2026 World Nomad Games
Officials organizing the sixth round of the traditional World Nomad Games have announced that representatives from 50 countries, including Afghanistan, have so far confirmed their participation in the competitions.
According to TASS news agency, Nursultan Adenov, head of the secretariat of the games, said on Thursday in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, that invitations have been sent to 100 countries and the registration process for participants will continue until July 1.
He expressed hope that representatives from nearly 95 countries will ultimately participate in the international competitions.
Adenov also said that the city of Bishkek has been designated as the permanent headquarters of the World Nomad Games headquarters and, unlike in previous editions, the responsibility for organizing will no longer be transferred to the host countries.
According to him, a final decision has not yet been made on the host country for the next round of the competition, but talks are ongoing with three countries and interest in hosting the event has increased.
The sixth round of the World Traditional Nomad Games is scheduled to be held in Kyrgyzstan from August 31 to September 6, 2026. About 3,000 athletes will compete in 43 traditional sports.
The World Nomad Games were first held in 2014 at the initiative of the Kyrgyz government, and athletes from 19 countries, including Afghanistan, participated.
