The Taliban-run Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation Affairs has announced that 79 Afghan citizens have returned to the country through the Torkham border crossing after being released from Pakistani prisons.
According to the ministry’s press release, these individuals were arrested by Pakistani police forces for not having legal residency documents and were released and transferred to Afghanistan after serving various terms of imprisonment.
This incident occurs while the process of arresting and deporting Afghan refugees from Pakistan continues. Last week alone, 307 Afghan citizens returned to the country after being released from Pakistani prisons.
The increase in the number of arrests and deportations of Afghan refugees in recent months has raised widespread concerns among families of refugees and human rights organizations. Many of these individuals face the risk of arrest and deportation due to residency problems, lack of legal documents, or administrative restrictions.
A number of migration experts believe that the situation of Afghan migrants and prisoners in foreign countries requires greater attention and more serious follow-up by responsible institutions. They emphasize that the lack of effective support mechanisms and limited diplomatic interactions have further complicated the problems of Afghan citizens abroad.
Experts also believe that protecting the rights of migrants, their access to legal services, and following up on the situation of Afghan prisoners in host countries are among the issues that require broader regional and international cooperation.
As the process of arresting and deporting Afghan migrants from some neighboring countries continues, concerns about the fate of thousands of Afghan citizens living abroad remain.
