Real Madrid advances to top 16 in Europe after beating Benfica 2-1 in the second leg of their play-off.
The match was held at the Santiago Bernabéu and Benfica took the lead in the 14th minute through Rafa Silva. The visitors' lead was short-lived, however, as Aurelien Choumany equalised in the 16th minute to leave the first half level.
The second half was more cautious and focused. While it looked like the match would end in a draw, Federico Valverde's pass in the 80th minute set up Vinicius Junior for the second goal.
Real Madrid, who had also won the first leg 1-0, advanced 3-1 on aggregate. They will next face either Manchester City or Sporting Lisbon.
The first leg of the two teams was marred by controversy, including allegations of racist abuse against Vinicius, but in the second leg, Real Madrid's players focused on the result and were able to secure their promotion.
