Pakistani sources say that Haibatullah Akhundzada, the leader of the Taliban, has sent a message to the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) warning them to stop their attacks inside Pakistan, otherwise they may lose the Taliban’s support.
According to a Pakistani official cited by the newspaper Express Tribune, the message was delivered as part of the Taliban’s efforts to show cooperation in controlling armed groups that Islamabad believes operate from Afghan territory.
However, Pakistani officials consider this step insufficient and believe that such messages have not yet led to any tangible change in the security situation.
These sources say Islamabad still believes that the Taliban’s approach toward armed groups active in the region has not changed, and concerns about their activities remain in place.
The Taliban in Afghanistan has not yet reacted to these reports. The group has repeatedly stated that it does not allow anyone to use Afghan territory against other countries and has denied claims regarding the presence and operations of the TTP in Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions between Kabul and Islamabad are continuing. Officials from both sides met in April this year in a China-mediated meeting in Urumqi to discuss security issues and bilateral relations, but the talks failed to fully resolve existing disagreements.
Relations between the Taliban and Pakistan in recent months have faced serious challenges due to mutual accusations over security issues and the activity of armed groups.
