*Unprecedented increase in fuel prices in Pakistan; Impact of war on global oil market*
The Pakistani government announced on Thursday that it has significantly increased the prices of diesel and petrol; a move that is considered the second increase in less than a month.
The decision was taken in the wake of the increase in global oil prices and the resulting escalation of tensions and war in the Middle East.
“The increase in prices was inevitable because after the US-Iran war, global oil prices have gone out of control,” Pakistan’s Oil Minister Ali Pervez Malik said in a press conference.
The increase in fuel prices could have far-reaching consequences for the economy and the cost of living of Pakistani citizens.
The world oil market has reached its peak price.
