Hannah Neumann, a member of the European Parliament, has declared that the Taliban’s criminal code of conduct effectively eliminates the principle of equality between men and women before the law and institutionalizes a structure based on systematic gender discrimination in Afghanistan.

According to her, a law that should have a protective role for citizens has now become a tool for restricting, subjugating and excluding women from social spheres. Neumann emphasized that this legal framework not only does not provide justice, but also paves the way for the gradual elimination of women from public life.

The MEP added that women in Afghanistan are deprived of the right to education and employment and face severe restrictions even when leaving the house. She considered this situation a form of forced dependence that, in her words, clearly resembles modern slavery.
