Doha, Beijing hold talks on Afghanistan’s future and regional stability

Doha – In the continuation of diplomatic moves on Afghanistan, Qatari Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh al-Khalifa met with China’s Special Representative for Afghanistan Affairs Yue Xiaoyong in Doha.

Qatari media reported that the meeting took place on Thursday, coinciding with the visit of the senior Chinese official to Qatar. The two sides exchanged views on the latest developments in Afghanistan and ways to coordinate international efforts to maintain security and stability in the country.

The talks come after the Chinese special representative visited Kabul before his trip to Doha and held talks with Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting foreign minister of the Taliban government, about regional relations and the talks between the Taliban and Pakistan in the Chinese city of Urumqi. According to sources, the Chinese special representative described the talks as “promising.”

The Qatari Foreign Ministry has also emphasized Doha’s continued support for political and diplomatic solutions to resolve crises and strengthen stability in Afghanistan and the region.

Qatar has become one of the main centers of political consultations on Afghanistan in recent years and has repeatedly hosted important international meetings in this regard. At the same time, China is also trying to play a more active role in the developments and future of Afghanistan by expanding cooperation with regional countries.
