Local sources in Nangarhar province report that Hajiullah Nazar, a well-known tribal elder, was shot and killed in an attack by unidentified gunmen in Surkhrod district.
According to the sources, the incident occurred on Tuesday morning when he was leaving his home and was targeted by gunfire. The attackers, who were riding a motorcycle, quickly fled the area after carrying out the assault.
Sources added that Hajiullah Nazar was taken to hospital following the attack, but later died due to the severity of his injuries. His family members have also confirmed the incident, stating that he was killed by unknown individuals.
A source from the Taliban police command in Nangarhar has confirmed the incident, but no details have yet been released regarding the motive or the identity of the perpetrators. Local officials said investigations have been launched to determine the circumstances of the attack.
This comes amid growing public concern over a rise in mysterious killings across different parts of the country. Just last week, another prominent figure was reportedly killed by unknown gunmen in Herat province.
