After preventing three container ships of different nationalities from passing through the Strait of Hormuz, the Iranian government emphasized that the passage was closed and warned that any attempt to pass through it would be met with a “severe response.”
The Tasnim news agency quoted a statement from the IRGC on Friday, April 27, as saying: “The movement of any ship from and to the ports of allies and supporters of the Israeli and American enemies to any destination and from any corridor is prohibited.”
“Closed to America”
The statement continued by stating that three cargo ships of different nationalities attempted to move to the designated route in the Strait of Hormuz for the passage of licensed ships, but were prevented from continuing after receiving a warning from the IRGC Navy. It was also claimed that these attempts were based on Donald Trump’s “lies” about the openness of the Strait of Hormuz.
Some Iranian officials had previously said that the vital passageway—through which a significant portion of the world's oil and gas is transported—was not closed, but at the same time, ships and insurance companies expressed concern about passing through it. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi subsequently emphasized that the strait was closed to the United States and its allies.
The Strait of Hormuz was completely closed.
