Mohsin Dawar, a former member of the Pakistani parliament: The Taliban have not yet separated from the influence of the Pakistani army.
According to him, the recent tensions between the Taliban and Islamabad are mostly superficial and the Taliban’s major decisions are influenced by Islamabad’s security calculations. The visit of the former Pakistani intelligence chief to Kabul and meeting with Taliban leaders is a sign of this dependence.
The Taliban’s behavior could pave the way for Pakistan to exert pressure or take possible military action against Afghanistan. This tactical dependence does not make political differences real.
The Afghan Taliban are still prisoners of the Pakistani army.
