Tajik President Orders Promotion of “Ancestor Script” Teaching in Schools and Universities

Monday – Kabul Times News:
President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon has ordered the Ministry of Education and Science of the country to take more extensive measures to teach the Persian language and calligraphy (Ancestor Script) and to increase citizens’ awareness of this cultural and linguistic heritage.

According to this order, educational institutions in Tajikistan are required to improve the quality and scope of “Ancestor Script” teaching at all levels of education. The President of Tajikistan has emphasized that students should acquire more skills in reading, writing, and understanding Persian grammar with this script.

Currently, the subject of “Ancestor Script” is included in the curriculum of Tajik schools, and students in the seventh and eighth grades are introduced to the alphabet, the basic principles of reading and writing, and the basics of this script.

According to the new decree, the teaching of “ancestral script” will be strengthened not only in schools but also in universities to improve the level of general knowledge and the ability to read Persian texts among the younger generation of Tajikistan.

Cultural experts consider this an important step towards preserving and reviving Tajikistan’s historical, cultural and linguistic ties with the common heritage of Persian-speaking peoples of the region.
